§ 20.20. Special metropolitan election and term of office of persons then elected.

  • There shall be a special metropolitan election on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, 1962, for the purpose of electing the first mayor, the first vice-mayor and forty (40) members of the first metropolitan council, including five (5) councilmembers-at-large and thirty-five (35) district councilmembers. Said special election and a run-off election thereafter to be held twenty-one (21) days later, if necessary, shall be held under the provisions of article 15 of this Charter with respect to metropolitan elections. The metropolitan officers elected at said special election shall take office on the first Monday of April, 1963, and shall serve until the first day of September, 1966, or until their successors are elected and qualified.

    The metropolitan officers elected at the general metropolitan election to be held on the fourth Thursday of April, 1966, shall serve until the first day of September, 1971, or until their successors are elected and qualified.

    For the purpose of determining the eligibility for a pension of the mayor or mayors elected hereunder in the first and second metropolitan general elections, and for the purpose of section 5.06 of this Charter, the term of the first metropolitan mayor elected and the term of the second metropolitan mayor elected shall be deemed to be terms of four (4) years each.
