§ 16. Power and authority of court.

  • The court shall have all the powers of a court to cause to be brought before it by proper process and to punish those who refuse to obey its lawful orders and to punish by summary procedure those who are guilty of contempt as the same is defined by law, when such contempt is in the presence of the court, by a fine of not more than fifty dollars ($50.00), or by imprisonment of not more than ten (10) days, or both: and that for the purpose of compelling the attendance of witnesses and others whose presence in court is necessary, and to enforce its lawful orders, judgments and decrees, the court shall have all the power and authority to issue attachments and other processes to bring such person before the court.
