§ 16.04.060. Alternate materials and methods—Authorization by director.

Latest version.
  • A.

The provisions of this code are not intended to prevent the use of any material, method of construction or means of providing life safety not specifically prescribed by this code, provided any such alternate has been approved and its use authorized by the director. The director may approve any such alternate, provided he finds that the proposed design is satisfactory and complies with the intent of this code, which is to provide an acceptable level of life safety for the general public.

    B.

The director may require sufficient evidence or proof be submitted to substantiate any claim that may be made regarding its use. If, in the opinion of the director, the evidence or proof is not sufficient to justify approval, the applicant may refer the entire matter to the board of building code appeals as stipulated elsewhere in this title.
