Latest version.
  • A.

The final test of the completed drainage and vent system shall be visual and performed in such a manner as to assure that the entire plumbing system meets the requirements of this chapter for such installation. When, in the opinion of the director of codes administration, acceptable performance of the plumbing installation or plumbing system is questionable, he may require such system to be subjected to a smoke or peppermint test.

    B.

When the smoke test is used, it shall be made by filling all traps with water and then introducing into the entire system a pungent, thick smoke produced by one or more smoke machines. When smoke appears at the stack openings they shall be closed and a pressure equivalent to a one-inch water column shall be built up and maintained for fifteen minutes before inspection.

    C.

When the peppermint test is used, two ounces of oil of peppermint shall be introduced for each line or stack.

    D.

For successful passage of this test, the system shall be tight at all joints.
