§ 16.16.170. Alternate methods or materials—Approval required.

  • The provisions of this code are not intended to prevent the use of any material or method of construction not specifically prescribed by this code, provided any such alternate has been approved by the gas/mechanical official. The gas/mechanical official may approve any such alternate, provided he finds that the alternate for the purpose intended is at least the equivalent of that prescribed in this code in quality, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, durability, and safety. The gas/mechanical official shall require that sufficient evidence or proof be submitted to substantiate any claim made regarding the alternate.
