§ 6.20.010. Registrations and licenses—Required—Classifications established.

  • A.

    Except as hereinafter provided, it is unlawful for any person to perform electrical work within the area of jurisdiction of the metropolitan government unless such person is licensed and registered under the provisions of this chapter. For the purpose of this Code, "electrical work" means the construction, renovation, installation, alteration, extension, removal, reparation, maintenance or servicing of any electrical system.

    B.

    For the purpose of this Code, every person engaged in electrical work within the area of jurisdiction of the metropolitan government, shall be "licensed" by the metropolitan board of electrical examiners and appeals and "registered" by the department of codes administration.

    C.

    For the purpose of this Code, the classification of the various licenses and registrations of the electrical industry shall be:

    1.

    Electrical contractor;

    2.

    Master electrician;

    3.

    Equipment contractor;

    4.

    Electrical equipment installer;

    5.

    Low-voltage contractor;

    6.

    Low-voltage wiring installer;

    7.

    Metropolitan journeyman electrician;

    8.

    Metropolitan apprentice electrician;

    9.

    Metropolitan beginning electrician.

    D.

    For the purpose of this Code, a person classified as a maintenance electrician need not and will not be licensed and registered by the department of codes administration.
